I’d like to address again about the distinction I make between change management and transformation.

Change management is a continuous or sustaining practice that refers to the normal upgrading of our ways of working that does not require us to change behaviour. We may change from on software system to another but fundamentally, we are still performing the same tasks. There may be training required, we may be lost and have to adapt, there may be a transition period, yet the fundamental tasks and behaviours required of us remain the same.

Transformation is discontinuous or disruptive process. In order to achieve something we’ve never done before (usually a level of performance, generating innovation, changing our organisational culture), we have to change the way we perceive our world, the way we behave and our ways of working are fundamentally different from what we did before.

Transformation is a deep process that requires hard work, time and organisational commitment. I have supported transformation in organisations and the benefits exceed all expectations. I have witnessed people develop and grow. I have seen intractable situations recover.

Transformation usually sits in the realm of complexity, nobody knows the outcome and it is shaped by the individuals and work communities that we create during the process. It is a living process, unknowable and yet it can be navigated with humility.

Why should you embark on such a journey of transformation? You may be called to it: your organisation may need something radically different to survive, you may wish to live up to deep and meaningful values, your business environment may have been disrupted, you may want to build resilience…

At Yinsight, we are here to support you on this journey. We don’t know the future, but we can help you navigate the uncertainty and complexity in a way that is respectful of your values and the people in your organisation. We deeply care about humans and are conscious that true change is never easy and impacts our lives. Together, we can help your organisation move closer to its full potential.
