I recently trained a therapist in using the Lego® Serious Play® methodology in her practice, with spectacular results!

Why use games, and Lego® bricks in particular, to help people talk more freely in therapy?

Patients sometimes find it difficult to share their experiences on sensitive subjects or to put difficult experiences into words. Establishing a climate of trust can take time, which we don’t always have.

We have adapted the Lego® Serious Play® methodology to help patients talk more freely, understand the hidden issues of a session more quickly and build trust quickly through play. Suitable for all audiences, the method is particularly effective with children and people with learning disabilities. It allows children to talk freely and the therapist can identify the underlying issue. In my own practice, issues like depression or abuse have surfaced whilst unspeakable in words.

Having used this methodology for years, I have adapted it for use in a therapeutic context and developed a short training programme dedicated to therapists and care professionals to learn :

  • The LSP methodology adapted to the therapeutic setting
  • The therapist’s way of being in using this practice
  • The key elements for creating trust with this methodology
  • The basics of questioning linked to this methodology

If you’re a therapist and you’re curious about this method, I’d be delighted to talk to you about it!
